Carlisle, PA , May 10, 2008 – Come support amyloidosis awareness by attending the Women’s Wellness and Beauty Seminar presented by the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation (CMCF) on Friday, August 22, 2008 from 10am-Noon. The seminar will take place during Corvettes at Carlisle in Carlisle, PA. The cost is $10.00 per person. All proceeds will benefit the CMCF in support of raising awareness and educating people on the symptoms and treatment options for this very rare disease. Each year approximately 3,000 people are diagnosed with amyloidosis in the United States. Early diagnosis is the key to better treatment outcomes. Amyloidosis occurs when amyloid proteins deposit and accumulate in the body’s organs and tissues. Chip Miller, co-founder of Carlisle Events, passed away from this disease in March 2004. Lance Miller, Chip Miller’s son states, “Awareness is the main message of our Foundation. We want to empower people with the knowledge of this disease; most importantly we want people to know the symptoms. If you think you have symptoms, go to the doctor and ask to be tested.”

The Women’s Wellness and Beauty Seminar will cover weight management topics, specifically, how to read food labels, good carbs vs. bad cards, and super foods to good health. The second portion of the seminar will cover the latest in cosmetic facial surgery, body contour surgery and clinical skin care. Door prizes will include cook books and gift certificates to local shops. Michele Miller, president of the CMCF states, “We’re always looking for new fundraising opportunities for our Foundation. And we thought this event would provide an added dimension for the women who attend Corvettes at Carlisle. Not only will it be fun and informative, but it provides us with an additional outlet to help spread the word and raise money for amyloidosis.”

The seminar will be hosted by Gary Russolillo, MD and Christina Mackay, MS, RD. Dr. Russolillo has over 20 years experience as a cosmetic plastic surgeon receiving his education at the University of Pennsylvania, the George Washington University Medical Center and a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Russolillo currently practices in West Hartford, CT and Westfield, MA.

Mackay has over 25 years of nutritional professional experience. Over the course of her career she has become an accomplished Registered Dietician, professional speaker, adjunct professor and consultant. Mackay is a Cum Laude graduate of CUNY Queens College.

The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation was formed in 2004 after the passing of Carlisle Events co-founder, Chip Miller. The goal of the Foundation is to raise awareness and educate the general public about amyloidosis for earlier diagnosis and better treatment outcomes. Donations received by the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation have in- turn been gifted to the Mayo Clinic in support of amyloid research and the Amyloidosis Foundation in support of amyloid awareness and educational programs.
