I hope all is well with both of you, everything is well here in Carlisle.
I'm writing this letter to share an idea my dad had (or as he put it "his
dream") regarding Le Mans 2010. You may be aware that my father purchased
the winning 1960 Corvette that won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1960. It took
first in class and 8th overall. It was the first Corvette to ever win Le Mans
and held the title until Pratt & Miller/GM won again in 2001. The 1960 Corvette
team that ran Le Mans (3 of them) were managed by Briggs Cunningham with a considerable
amount of GM factory support. Prior to my father's passing he wanted to
take the '60 Le Mans winning Corvette back to Le Mans to reunite the car
50 years later. Due to his untimely death, he is unable to fulfill his dream,
however, I would like this special dream of his to live on through me - I will
take the Cunningham Corvette to the 2010 24 hours of Le Mans.
I'm contacting you because of the tremendous media excitement this will
generate and the hope that we can somehow work together on this venture. How
cool would it be if Corvette took the title at Le Mans again in 2010 and the
Corvette that won 50 years earlier was displayed side by side after the race?
The global exposure would be tremendous for GM! I'm currently working
with Dan & Jake from the C5/C6 registry but wanted to touch base with both
of you to see if you had any interest in helping out with this endeavor. It
will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and the best thing of all is John Fitch
one of the two drivers (the late Bob Grossman also drove the car) is still alive,
he's 91 years old but sharp as a pin. As you probably already know John
Fitch is an incredibly well known racer.
This will be a huge undertaking, but as I mentioned before, I want to see my
dad's dream come true. I'm hoping GM will have some interest in
helping (brainstorming, helping arrange getting the car overseas & etc.)
with this endeavor. As you know it's better to start early on a project
like this to help maximize exposure. My plan is to fulfill my father's
idea and also spread the word about amyloidosis and the Chip Miller Charitable
Foundation during this endeavor. I'll speak with you further about this
in a few weeks when we have our conference call.
I appreciate any feedback you can provide me.
Sincerely,
Lance Miller
