It all comes together this year at the 4th annual Chip Miller Memorial Surf Fest, presented by Fox Riders Company, under the direction of Surf-Brand manager Chris Drummy, July 17, at the 7th Street Surfing Beach in Ocean City, NJ. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better with an added pro division that will be invitation only and limited to 24 professional surfers from around the world. There is no entry fee for the pro division and the winner will surf home with a $3,000 purse.

Led by Nick Bricker, Surf Fest was conceived to benefit the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation in the fight against Amyloidosis. Chip Miller, who passed away from Amyloidosis in March of 2004, was a surfing enthusiast and mentor to young surfers, as well as a renowned car-hobbyist. Chip Miller is also well-known for starting Carlisle Events (www.carlisleevents.com), a collector car show attracting more than half a million people each year located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Last year’s event raised over $10,000 with plenty of fun had by kids and parents alike. One of the parents and competitors of the parent/child contest from 2006, Mark Medama said: “The Chip Miller Surf Fest is a must attend, it’s the surf event of the year. The parent/child division adds an incredible dynamic to this already great event and it’s great to know it goes to a good cause.” A winning contestant, Kevin Richards said: “The Chip Miller Surf Fest is the most enjoyable event of the year; I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”

Fox Riders, Reef and other gracious sponsors will once again be in attendance offering plenty of beach give-away items such as hats, t-shirts, sandals, and towels. The after- party will take place at El Fish Stixx in Margate, NJ. There will be food, a silent auction and door prizes with items including surf boards, wet suits, fishing gear and two skateboards signed by Chad Muska and MTV’s Bamm. Entry tickets are only $10.

The Chip Miller Surf Fest is open to all ages with divisions that include Long board, Short board, Men and Women and a Parent/Child heat. Pre-registration costs $25. Registration day of the event is $30. Register online today at: www.chipmiller.org/surffest.

Many local surf shops and companies such as Heritage Surf and Sport, Surfers Supplies, 7th Street Surf Shop, Reef, Volcom, Surf Tech, Billabong, Orion Surfboards, Electric Eyewear, Hurley, Quicksilver, Smith, Osiris, Ezekiel, Optics, Body Glove, Sector 9, Oakley, DaKine, Dragon Eyewear, Rusty, Element Skateboards, DVS, Matix, Ginsberg Bakery and Rojo’s New Jersey Mex Café will be contributing money and products to the festival.
Amyloidosis is a very rare and potentially fatal disease with no cure. Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal proteins called amyloids build up in the body’s organs affecting the heart, liver, kidneys, spleen and nervous system and gastrointestinal tract.

Lance Miller who grew up in Ocean City, NJ stated: “It’s wonderful to see my father still make a positive impression on people’s lives. He lived his life always helping others and now he’s in heaven looking down making more positive impressions by spreading the word about amyloidosis. It’s amazing how he was such a dear friend with all my friends. He was my best friend and it carried over to my friends as well. We all loved to just hang out together! I’m certain he’s smiling down with that genuine smile we all miss so dearly. On his behalf I’d like to thank everyone for all of their phenomenal love and support.”

On behalf of the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation we'd like to take this time to say special thanks to the city of Ocean City, NJ. We would also like to thank the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) and Northeast Conference Director Joe Keenan. Without your support the Chip Miller Surf Fest wouldn't be what it is today - THANK YOU!
