Chip Miller Surf Fest Splashes Back into Ocean City
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The 7th Annual Chip Miller Surf Fest, presented by Fox and Ocean Minded, will be held JULY 29, 2010 at the 7th Street Surfing Beach located in Ocean City, NJ.

In addition to hosting a community-wide surf contest, which includes the popular parent/child heat, The Surf Fest raises money and awareness for the rare but deadly disease Amyloidosis, which took the life of the event's namesake, Chip Miller, in 2004.

"It is an honor for Fox to once again be a presenting sponsor," said Chris Drummy, the company's Surf Promotions Manager. "In my opinion, the Chip Miller Surf Fest is the biggest and most important event on the East Coast this summer. Fox is looking forward to supporting this great event for many years to come."

The Chip Miller Surf Fest is infamous because of the outpouring of support from both the community and the surf industry. Many local businesses and artists, along with major surf companies, contribute their services and products for beach giveaways, event support, after-party raffle prizes, and silent auction items.

All proceeds are donated to the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Charitable Foundation, who's mission is to empower people with the knowledge and understanding of Amyloidosis for earlier detection, ensuring a better quality of life for those afflicted with the disease and to help science find the cure.

In the past, the event has been attended by prominent surf celebrities, including Bethany Hamilton, Rob Machado, Brad Gerlach, Ben Bourgeois, local legend Dean Randazzo, and a host of other well-known athletes.
"Over the years, we've been very fortunate to have some very high-profile surfers take time out of their busy schedules to attend the Surf Fest and stoke out the kids", stated Event Director Nick Bricker.
"The autograph signings are a crowd favorite, and it's always amazing to see hundreds of groms lined up, waiting for their signed poster. It usually comes down to the last minute, in terms of who will be attending, and this year is no different. We've got a few surprises up our sleeves, and I'm sure the kids will be leaving the beach happy, "
concluded Bricker.

This year's after-party will once again be held at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, NJ, and begins at 5pm. Entry is $30 and includes an all-you-can-eat buffet and a chance to win a very special door prize.
In addition to incredible food, live entertainment, surf movies, and drink specials, there will be an amazing selection of raffle prizes and items to bid on in the silent auction.

Although he was known as one of the most enthusiastic 'Surf Dads' in New Jersey, Chip Miller was recognized outside of surfing circles as one the country's most respected Corvette enthusiasts. In an effort to merge Chip's two passions into one event, there will be a world-class display of Corvettes at the after-party, for all to see.

"After four years of attendance, the Surf Fest has become my favorite summertime event - and that's not just because I'm from New Jersey", said a smiling Bob Tanner, Marketing Director of Ocean Minded. "Rarely do you see such an amazing effort from an entire community to put on an event and after-party like this. Having it supported by the surf industry in such a large way is an extra-bonus, and I'm once again proud to have Ocean Minded be a presenting sponsor".

ABOUT CHIP MILLER:

In December 2003, Chip Miller was diagnosed with a little-known disease called Amyloidosis. Sadly, due to complications from the disease, the world lost an incredibly special human being on March 25, 2004. Had Chip and his doctors been aware of the symptoms of Amyloidosis when they first presented, this legend might still be with us today.

ABOUT AMYLOIDOSIS:

Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal protein, called amyloid, builds up in one or more organs to cause a malfunction. As an abnormal protein, amyloid originates in bone marrow. The heart, kidneys, nervous system and gastrointestinal tract are most often affected by the disease. Signs and Symptoms depend on the organs affected. The wide range of symptoms makes it difficult to diagnose.
